Lola T332 Hu53 was originally a Formula 5000 car, like many T300, T330 and T332's it underwent conversion to single seat Can Am spec. This a great car for vintage racing. Easy and inexpensive to operate, no complicated electronics. It is in excellent condition with a new tub and fresh Falconer built 5 Liter Chevrolet engine.
This car has significant history, particularly African American racing history. Hu53 was originally delivered to " Black American Racers" or known BARA. The car was driven by Benny Scott and sponsored by Viceroy. It looked very similar to the Vel's Parnelli Jones cars of Mario Andretti and Al Unser Sr. It was later owned by RJ Nelkin and driven by Price Cobb and Charlie Kemp. It was acquired by Gerre Payvis for the 1980 season. Payvis raced the car from 1980-83 in T333CS configuration, In 1984 it was re-bodied with Frisbee bodywork for Drake Olson to drive.
See it run at Willow Springs.
