The Curtis was built by a little-known race car builder Frank Curtis for the 1972 Indianapolis 500.

The Curtis was built by a little-known race car builder Frank Curtis for the 1972 Indianapolis 500. It was originally powered by a turbocharged Offenhauser engine. It driven at Indianapolis by Bill Puterbaugh, but failed to qualify. It was entered in 3 more races that year. Milwaukee was the next race and had John Hubbard driving, Hubbard failed to qualify. It next appeared at Michigan with Jerry Karl driving, again failing to qualify. At the August Milwaukee race it was entered for John Hubbard, but the car did not arrive.
From our research, the car did not appear again until 1975. It was entered for Jerry Sneva, the younger brother of 1983 Indy 500 winner Tom Sneva. It was entered again at the next race at Milwaukee with Canadian Frank Weiss driving. Frank qualified 17th and finished 22nd, retiring on lap 5 with an oil leak.
After that, the Offenhauser engine was replaced by a Chevrolet. Our research on this car has shown that it was not raced after that. For more information email: info@indycompetition.com or call (765)335-2057
