In the beginning, Pat Stair built this Chevrolet Monza road racer for John R. "Jack" Sandberg, owner of J.R.S. Racing / Metal Masters of Minneapolis, and their 1980 SCCA Trans Am effort. Initially, the JRS Racing Chevrolet Monza was only driven once by Carl Shafer of Wyoming, Illinois, who had little success. During the 1980 SCCA Trans Am race at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit in Tulsa, Shafer retired after 32 laps due to electrical problems. The next year, the Monza ended up in the hands of SCCA pro racer, Dick Kantrud of Minnesota.
Dick Kantrud #15 campaigned the Pat Stair Chevrolet Monza in SCCA Club and SCCA Trans Am, 1981-1982. It was sold to Marshall Kirkof #66, who raced SCCA GT-1 at Brainerd Int'l Raceway in 1983. The car collided with the bridge abutment at BIR then sold.Rick Balderson of Florida, purchased the wrecked Monza from Marshall Kirkof. He repaired the damaged front end and campaigned as car no. 66 at SCCA Club races with Central Florida Region, and co-drove at Sebring 12 hour IMSA race in GTO class.
Restoration on this car was begun on 2012. It returned to the track debuting at Lime Rock in September 2018. For more information call (765) 335-2057 or email:info@indycompetition.com.
